I read somewhere that the month of January is the “week between Christmas and New Year”. I believe this to be true for me. January is my time to recoup and reenergize after a holiday season of gatherings, shopping, and of course, overeating, before starting a new year. It is the time where I like to “quiet the house” or “house hushing” as Myquillyn, aka “the nester”, likes to call it. This is where I clear the clutter, edit holiday decorations before putting them away, make donations, and purge unwanted items. Letting my home, and in return myself, breathe.
Over the years, I have enjoyed editing and simplifying our home and have always believed in fewer, nicer things. I have decreased the amount of trends I pay attention to and focus more on timelessness. This has led me to become more intentional with purchases. So, I thought it would be fun to do a weekly series sharing different areas of our home where I have simplified and made better purchase decisions, which in turn, have made life easier. I would love to hear and learn about yours as well. Please leave your tips in the comment section at the end!
Let’s start with the bedroom.
I am pretty picky with sheets when it comes to the feel, weight, and coolness/warmth. And, to simplify, we have one set of white sheets for each bed. Best part, there is no need to figure out how to fold a fitted sheet and no space needed to store extras. We recently replaced our old set with this one from Lands End, thanks to the recommendation from @thisoakhouse.
We don’t have an abundance of decorative pillows on our bed. Although I can appreciate the styling of pillows and how they create texture, pattern, and introduce colors, they all just ended up on the floor. Not to mention the extra time it took when making the bed and getting them all lined up just right. Currently, I have three Euros going across but am contemplating simplifying even further to do something like the picture below.

I love a soothing, neutral color way. For me, patterns and bright colors create a busyness and I don’t want to feel when entering our bedroom. I want something calming and a space for shutting down.

One thing I would like to incorporate into our bedroom is fresh flowers. A small and simple addition to see and smell when you wake up.

I love framed pictures of loved ones on the nightstand. They are the first ones I see when I wake up and last ones before I go to sleep, putting me in a grateful mindset to start and end each day.
